"Messaging standards are standards which describe how to format syntactically (and sometimes semantically) a message usually describing some event or time related information such as an invoice or a certificate. Messages are sent because an event has occurred (a product has arrived or is ready for collection), or because an action needs to be taken (e.g.payment for an invoice). A good example is EDIFACT."
